SUNGAI PETANI - A man with a disability, stabbed customers of a laundry shop and a grocery store, was sentenced to 12 years in prison by the Sessions Court here yesterday.
The accused, Mohamad Zulfikar Nazriq Mohd. Zahir, 21, who pleaded guilty to the three charges, was sentenced to nine.
Mohamad Zulfikar, the right-footed mistress pleaded guilty after the charge was read in front of Judge N. Priscilla Hemamalini.
Based on the charge of the charge, the accused with his friend, Muhammad Asmuhairyl Abas, 20, and another still charged with a gang robbery armed with a machete on a 23-year-old woman's handset in front of a supermarket here at 7.15am on Sep 10.

The price of cigarettes will be raised next month.

KUALA LUMPUR - The retail price for all cigarette brands will be increased over the next three weeks, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad.

He said the price of tobacco products including cigarettes should be increased when there is a tax increase based on Regulation 8A of the 2004 Tobacco Revenue Control Regulations.

"The implementation of the Sales and Service Tax (SST) recently will cause prices for all types of tobacco products including cigarettes to be increased," he said at a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

On the smoking ban in the Parliament building, Dzulkefly said eight compound notices were issued to a Member of Parliament since yesterday's enforcement.

The action was taken following the declaration of smoking angles and eating places in the Parliament building as a smoking area starting yesterday.

The decision to demolish a toll issue is known two or three months later.

KUALA LUMPUR - Decisions on the elimination of highway toll collection will only be known within two to three months.

Works Minister, Baru Bian said that at the moment, it has received several proposals from the highway concessionaires involved and will evaluate all the proposals before making any decision.

"Nowadays we are still negotiating, looking for a mutually beneficial path to the stakeholders and the new government, what will be decided on the good way that all stakeholders can accept.

"I understand that all stakeholders are positive (economic) to our current position, so they understand that we hope to have mutual understanding and conclusion and best mutual agreement," he said.

He said this after officiating the Man-Hours Without Lost-Time Injury (LTI) Appreciation Ceremony for highway projects under construction, at the Mahkota Cheras City Highway Suspension.

Ali Salman said it is not the job of the government to do moral policing or force specific behaviour, responding to recent remarks by Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad who said Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) entertainment outlets will close at 1am starting on January 2019, in a move to enhance family time.

Khalid also added that he cannot ignore the numerous complaints from the public about noise and other disturbances.

According to FMT news portal, the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs chief executive Ali Salman said, people should be allowed to decide whether to spend time at home or at entertainment outlets, with or without their families.

However, the existing rules and regulations on operating hours for entertainment outlets should be respected and enforced.

Plus, forms of entertainment which cause harm and uneasiness to the others, such as being a nuisance to neighbourhoods or being loud, should be checked and controlled.

Other than Ali Salman, Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (MATTA) president, Datuk Tan Kok Liang also warned that this enforcement could have serious repercussions on tourism and businesses in the city.

According to him, Kuala Lumpur attracted 12.29 million international tourists, ahead of world-renowned cities such as Rome, Tokyo, Istanbul, Seoul, Miami, Barcelona and Shanghai last year.

He cautioned that shortening the operating hours of entertainment outlets would lessen tourists’ experience thus it  could lead them deciding not to return to the city.

Adding to that, the situation could be further affected by the introduction of the airport departure levy beginning of January 2019.

“It should be noted that Malaysia’s tourism industry employs 3.2 million people and contributed 22.7 per cent to total employment. As such, closing entertainment outlets at 1 am sharp may create a ripple effect on our tourism industry and affect our country’s economy,” warned Tan.

51 Illegal Immigrants arrested.

SETIU: A total of 51 illegal immigrants were detained in Integrated Operations involving the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and the Immigration Department at two separate locations around the city of Kuala Terengganu, beginning late last night.

In operations launched from 12 midnight to 5 am, 439 foreign workers undergo a two-location documentation at the Kuala Terengganu City Center (KTCC) and the construction site of Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin University Hospital.

Terengganu police deputy chief Datuk Allaudeen Abdul Majid said based on the inspection of all 51 foreign workers detained were detected in various offenses under the Immigration Act.

"Of the total number of foreign workers detained, 24 of them are Myanmar citizens, 21 Indonesians, five Bangladeshis and a Pakistani

"They are now detained by Immigration for further investigation before the follow-up action is taken," he said when met after Narcotics Narcotics Cases (JSJN) Narcotics Disposal Program Terengganu, here today.

The five-hour operation involved 81 officers and members of the two agencies.

Former PM back at MACC.

PUTRAJAYA: Former prime minister Najib Razak is back at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters, believed to be related to investigations into a solar panel project for schools in Sarawak.

Najib has been summonned to MACC several times before this to help in investigations into several cases. He was last there on Nov 8.

On Thursday, Najib’s wife Rosmah Mansor was charged with two counts of corruption involving RM1.5 million over a project to supply and install solar energy to 369 rural schools in Sarawak two years ago.

His former aide Rizal Mansor was also charged with four counts of soliciting and receiving bribes for himself and Rosmah, amounting to RM5.5 million in connection to the same project

Recently I have assignments of reviewing this movie named "1984"by George Maxwell. The movie is kinda boring and plain but seems very close to me. The movie plot is familiar. Then I recall something I learn from classes before. I realize that mass media always have their own agenda, they frame news or things that they wanted people to see and to believe what they wanted people to believe by their agenda setting. It is obvious that in 1984 movie, they do not have the freedom of speech. Same like now. Most place also like this. Currently, most mass media platform gives the right to express their opinion without getting punishment, but within its country’s law.

Not only he highlighten about education, moral value also important. How to get moral value? By following the guide of religion. As he is Muslim, he talks about the beauty of Islam.

Other than speech, he told us story about when he was in Penjara Sungai Buloh.

The vice chancellor of UNISEL is dsai's friend. He told us that DSAI cares about UNISEL's future. While DSAI's in bar, he wrote letter for the vice chancellor. A letter of six pages! Hand-written of course. A letter with nothing but full with moral support, advice, and expression of appreciation.

But he never told us how he manage to send out the letter and it remains as mystery. He never tells how.

Malaysia ignores China's request; frees 11 ethnic Uighurs.

KUALA LUMPUR  - Malaysia freed 11 ethnic Uighur Muslims who fled to the Southeast Asian nation after they broke out of prison in Thailand last year because they did nothing wrong there, Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad said on Monday.

It is reported last week that Malaysia had released the 11 from detention and sent them to Turkey, despite a request from Beijing for the men to be return to China.

"They have done nothing wrong in this country, so they are released," Mahathir said in brief comments to reporters in parliament, the first from the Malaysian government since their release.  

Prosecutors in Muslim-majority Malaysia immigration charges against the group on humanitarian grounds and they flew out of Kuala Lumpur to turkey on Tuesday, according to their lawyer Fahmi Moin.

The men arrived in Malaysia after breaking out of prison in Thailand by punching holes in a wall and using blankets as ladders. In February,  Malaysia was under great pressure from China to deport the Uighurs there.

Some Western countries urged the country not to send them to China, where the government in Beijing accuses Uighur separatists of plotting attacks on China's Han majority in Xinjiang and elsewhere.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia needs to focus on institution's strength for the country's development. 

According to Khazanah Research Institute (KRI), Malaysia’s institutional strength has been declining in the past decade, and a reversal of this would require strengthening the country's institutions.

“Malaysia needs to look beyond economic growth,” KRI said in a statement today during the launch of its latest “State of Households” report here.

“Malaysia needs to focus on its institutions as they are a key component to the country's development,” the non-profit research outfit of Khazanah Nasional Bhd explained.

Meantime, KRI noticed that while Malaysian household have fare well as the economy has prospered since independence, the question remained whether the country could further diversify its economy to ensure sustained growth in households incomes.

“As Malaysia heads towards the high-income country horizon, we need to focus on developing intensive knowledge-based economy, high quality human capital and modern infrastructure,” KRI said.
